Bronze Memorials

In today’s high-tech age of mass-produced consumer goods, it is often hard to find products that evoke an artisan’s craftsmanship.  OBCO has kept a fine tradition alive for over 80 years, producing bronze memorials of unsurpassed quality.

The design and lettering on every bronze memorial is hand-chased, highlighted and carefully polished.  The traditional finish for our memorials is statuary bronze, which maintains the warm hues unique to this wonderful metal.  Other background shades are available and all compliment the polished lettering and designs.

The final effect is stunning, and to preserve this beauty, each bronze memorial is given an application of our extremely durable clear finish.

We offer a large selection of designs and sizes to meet all cemetery regulations and custom sizes can almost always be accommodated.  Obco has a vast selection of emblems, logos and crests that can be added to a memorial, and personalized artwork is also available.


THE EVOLUTION

The beginning of your memorial starts with the wording you have chosen to be part of the plaque.  The lettering is applied to either custom or permanent patterns of many different designs and sizes.

This completed pattern is used to prepare a sand mold to receive the bronze.  The bronze alloy consists of copper, tin, lead and zinc and is melted in crucibles at temperatures exceeding 2000 degrees.  The molten bronze is poured into the sand mold cavity creating the bronze plaque.

After the casting has cooled, it is hand-finished by our artisans insuring lettering and ornamentation meets our exacting standards.

A statuary bronze color is applied to the plaque.  The lettering and artwork are then hand polished to provide a beautiful golden contrast to the plaque background.

Finally, a  hi-grade clearcoat is applied to the surface guaranteeing a durable, weather-resistant finish.

The final stage before installation in the cemetery is mounting your bronze memorial onto either a granite or concrete base.
